Kindergarten: Full Day Program
The Kindergarten class is for children who turn five by September 30th with a maximum student to teacher ratio of 16:2. The program is based on the curriculum guidelines set out by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) as well as coordinating with the curriculum of the Bridgewater Public Schools. It is a developmentally appropriate program focusing on four major areas: social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language. Our unique and acclaimed program prepares students for the growing responsibilities expected of learners today. Some features of the program are:
- Use of two adjacent rooms providing extensive space for children to grow as independent self starters actively involved in the learning process with centers in both rooms allowing children to explore materials and cooperatively interact with classmates
- Opportunity during center time, with a maximum of eight students per room, for one on one time with teachers
- Opportunity for all sixteen children to work together as a community of learners
- Gross motor coordination through our organized gym classes as well as daily play in our fenced in outdoor playground with space to run and equipment for swinging, climbing, balance and sand play. In addition, we make great use of a large indoor playroom set up for climbing, balance, running and lots of tricycles
- Computer class in small groups with a computer specialist for a half hour every week in our computer lab of eight computers; each child works independently in guided lessons
- HSP Math by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, as used in the Bridgewater-Raritan school district, integrating literature, games, science, art, and blocks into the mathematical experience
- Integrated phonics and whole language approach to reading conducted on a one-to-one basis tailored to meet each child’s individual needs and learning style
- Writing skills using a secure grip and control. The “Handwriting Without Tears” program is used for teaching correct letter and number formation and developing good habits for successful penmanship.
